What Is ESIM?

An eSIM (embedded-SIM) is a form of SIM card that is embedded directly into a device, replacing the traditional physical SIM card. It consists of software installed onto an eUICC (embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card) chip permanently attached to the device. The eSIM can be reprogrammed with new SIM information if it is eUICC-compatible.

ICCID?

On the other hand, the ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identifier) is a unique identification number assigned to the SIM card or eSIM. It consists of 18-20 digit codes like 89******, and the former 6 numbers stands for the eSIM/SIM provider code.

ICCID and ESIM

Each eSIM has a specific ICCID associated with it. The ICCID serves as a unique identifier that helps identify and authenticate the eSIM when connecting to a network. It is similar to how a physical SIM card has a unique ICCID assigned to it.

EID?

On the other hand, EID (eUICC ID) refers to the embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card ID. It is a unique identifier assigned to the eUICC chip that hosts the eSIM. The EID is essentially a digital representation of the physical SIM card.

EID and ESIM

The relation between EID and eSIM is that the EID serves as the unique identifier for the eUICC chip, which contains the eSIM. It is used to associate the eSIM with the device and allows for the management and provisioning of different network profiles.

In summary, the EID is the unique identifier for the eUICC chip hosting the eSIM, while the ICCID is the unique identifier for the SIM card or eSIM. The EID and ICCID work together to identify and manage the eSIM within the device.
