Look for “Add eSIM”
Open Settings and look under Cellular, Mobile Service, Network & internet, Connections, or SIM Manager.
Search phones and cellular tablets that can use an eSIM. Support may vary by model number, country of sale, carrier, and software version.
Most recent iPhones, Google Pixel phones, and flagship Samsung Galaxy phones support eSIM, but regional variants can differ. Search for your exact model below, then confirm that Add eSIM appears in Settings and that the device is carrier-unlocked.

China mainland
Apple currently lists two China-mainland models with eSIM support: iPhone 17e (A3635) and iPhone Air (A3518). Other iPhone models cannot install an eSIM from a China-mainland carrier. When using an international travel eSIM, follow Apple’s current travel and location requirements.
Hong Kong and Macao
Many locally sold iPhones use two physical nano-SIM cards, while selected models support eSIM. Apple’s current supported list includes iPhone 17e, iPhone 17 / 17 Pro / 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, iPhone XS, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 mini, and iPhone SE (2nd/3rd generation).
The safest check is Settings → Cellular or Mobile Service → Add eSIM. If this option is absent, that regional configuration likely does not support eSIM. See Apple’s international eSIM guidance.
A compatible Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad can usually install a data eSIM. Wi-Fi-only iPads cannot. Smartwatches are different: many require a carrier-specific wearable plan linked to a phone number, so a standard travel eSIM QR code normally cannot be installed directly on an Apple Watch or similar wearable.
