The history of the UEFA European Championship
In 1954, an important event took place: the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) was founded, and the development of European soccer has had great support ever since. The following year, in 1955, the UEFA organized the Champions Clubs' Cup, the top tournament in European soccer at the time. in 1956, the UEFA decided to make the event even more official, with national teams represented by UEFA member associations, an event that represented the official launch of the European National Teams' Tournament.
The first European Nations Cup (now known as the European Championship) was hosted by France. The qualifiers began in 1960 and can be viewed as the first UEFA Nations Cup. Only four national teams competed at the time (the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and France). The Soviets were overwhelmingly victorious beating Yugoslavia in the final to win the first European Championship.

The European Cup has evolved over time. The number of participating teams has increased and the rules have been optimized. In 1996, the number of teams in the European Championship increased to 16. At the same time, there was no longer a play-off for third place, and the two losing teams in the semi-finals no longer had to compete for third place. The defending champion no longer automatically qualifies for the next final tournament. The European Championships continued to grow and the number of participating countries increased. Until now, the final tournament has grown to 24 teams, and has adopted a system that combines group and knockout rounds, making it fairer, more competitive, and more uncertain in terms of results.
The scale of the tournament and the intensity of the competition continued to draw more and more people to the European Championships, which gradually grew into a soccer event that was watched by people all over the world, attracting countless spectators to each tournament.Since 1996, the European Championships have been aligned with the World Cup cycle, in a bit of a hunger marketing move, whetting the appetites of the avid fans, and have been held once every four years. Given the size of the tournament and the intensity of the competition, many jokingly refer to it as “the World Cup without Brazil and Argentina.” The results of the Euros are often dramatic and unpredictable; Spain is the only team to have successfully defended its title, winning back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2012. This underscores the intense competition and uncertainty inherent in the Europa League.

UEFA European Championship: Rules and Format

Qualification Groups:
The qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League are used to select the 24 teams for the final round of the Europa League, with the host country automatically qualifying (in this case, also Germany) and the other teams being divided into groups for the qualifying rounds. The group stage is a double round-robin system of home and away matches. The top two teams from each group advance to the final, and a total of 24 teams are selected to advance.
In the event that two or more teams are tied on points, specific criteria are used to determine their ranking. These criteria include points from matches between tied teams, followed by goal difference, goals scored and away goals (if applicable). Subsequently, the assessment is expanded to include overall performance in the group stage, examining goal difference and goals scored in all group matches, as well as the accumulation of Fair Play points. If none of these criteria resolves the tie, the final decision may be made by drawing lots.
Final Tournament:
At the final tournament, there is a group stage to select the top 16 teams and then a knockout stage to select the current champion.
Group Stage: The 24 teams are divided into six groups of four teams each. Each group is organized in a single round-robin system, with each team playing the other three teams in the same group. The top two teams from each group and the four best third-placed teams advance to the Round of 16.
Knockout Round: The tournament becomes extremely competitive in the knockout rounds, as the tournament becomes single-elimination. This stage consists of the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and final.
Rules: Matches are usually 90 minutes long. If there is a tie, the game goes into overtime, which is two 15-minute periods, and the team that scores the most goals in the overtime period wins the game. If the score is still the same at the end of the extra time, the teams will play a penalty shootout.
The group stage and the final group stage determine the teams that will participate in the knockout stage. Of course, it is possible that many of the strongest teams are placed in a group, resulting in a group of death. The single-elimination system of the knockout rounds greatly increases the uncertainty and intensity of the tournament, making the spectators of each edition eagerly anticipate the outcome.
2. Euro Cup 2024 Lineup Overview
-
Key players in each team
France
Since 2000, the French team hasn't clinched a European Championship title, but after making it to the finals of the last two World Cups, they arrive in Germany as one of the favorites to win. With star players like Kylian Mbappé and depth in their squad with players like Eduardo Camavinga from Real Madrid and Marcus Thuram in top form for Inter Milan, some players who might even have to settle for a spot on the bench. Didier Deschamps is still searching for the right mix and balance, as indicated by the recent loss to the German team, but it's expected that the French team will find their stride in the knockout stages.

Germany
Julian Nagelsmann recalled retired veteran Toni Kroos to the national team, reshaping his midfield, and early signs suggest that this gamble could pay off. With Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz having the home advantage, the German team suddenly looks like contenders again for the European Championship title, nearly 30 years after their Euro 96 triumph.

England
This is Gareth Southgate's fourth major tournament as England manager, and possibly his last, as he leads arguably the strongest squad yet. Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane are the top scorers in La Liga and Bundesliga respectively as of writing; Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka are the two best attacking players in the Premier League; Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer look like future leaders. As recent errors in the friendly against Belgium indicated, England's fatal weakness remains their defense, but they have enough attacking firepower and tournament experience to reach the final.

Portugal
Portugal is the only team to have a perfect record in the qualifying rounds, winning all 10 of their matches, with Cristiano Ronaldo cleverly netting 10 goals. Roberto Martinez will bring one of the best teams to Germany this summer, featuring a plethora of attacking talents like Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Pedro Neto, João Félix, Diogo Jota, and Raphael Leão.

Spain
Talented new-generation Spanish players will shine at this year's European Championship, led by Atletico Madrid's Nico Williams and Barcelona's Ramin Yamar. Yamar, at just 16, is already one of Barcelona's best players and made headlines for Spain in a friendly against Brazil at the Bernabeu. The youth will be complemented by the likes of Rodri, arguably one of the best midfielders in the world right now, and optimism surrounds Spain's potential impact in Germany.

Italy
Since defeating the England team in the finals at Wembley Stadium three years ago, the defending champions haven't been convincing. They failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, then finished third in the Nations League, and narrowly beat Ukraine in the Euro qualifiers, losing twice to England. Like many big nations, Luciano Spalletti faces a major issue with his forwards lacking goals, but Italy cannot be underestimated in major tournaments.
Netherlands
Ronald Koeman continues to oscillate between a back four and the more typical Dutch 4-3-3 formation, the latter proving its effectiveness with a 4-0 win over Scotland in a March international friendly. The Netherlands' problem still lies in lacking a reliable striker - no Dutch player scored more than three goals in the qualifiers.
Belgium
The golden generation has faded without the same talent to replace them, but fully fit Kevin De Bruyne still represents one of the best players in Europe. Belgium remained unbeaten in the qualifiers, conceding just four goals, and hasn't lost a game since being defeated by Morocco in the 2022 World Cup. Romelu Lukaku topped the charts with 14 goals in the 2024 Euro qualifiers and will once again be crucial.
Austria
Ralph Rangnick has Austria playing some fine football. After comfortably qualifying by beating main rivals Sweden both home and away, they impressed with two remarkable victories in March, defeating Slovakia 2-0 and Turkey 6-1 respectively. With talents like David Alaba, Marcel Sabitzer, Christoph Baumgartner, Marcel Sabitzer, Christoph Baumgartner, and Michael Gregoritsch in their ranks, they boast a squad capable of making an impact. In a challenging group with France and the Netherlands, they possess the strength to unsettle their opponents.
Croatia
Croatia still relies on the 38-year-old midfield maestro Luka Modric, who continues to exhibit stellar performances. Their journey in the 2024 European Championship group stage has been challenging, particularly against Spain and Italy.
Hungary
Marco Rossi's tactically fluid team provides moments of joy at their peak and remains an underestimated force. Since losing to Italy in the Nations League in September 2022, they haven't tasted defeat. Liverpool's Dominic Szoboszlai leads as captain, showcasing outstanding skills, while forward Barnabás Varga poses a threat with his four goals in the qualifiers and an impressive record of 26 goals in 30 appearances for Hungarian champions Ferencváros this season.
Denmark
Denmark has secured their place in the European Championship, with Rasmus Højbjerg's performances at Manchester United bringing hope to their campaign. Under the guidance of coach Kasper Hjulmand, who led them to the semifinals of Euro 2020, they are still searching for the right lineup, having switched between four at the back and wingbacks.
Slovenia
England should be wary of Slovenia, their opponent in Group C, especially their towering forward Benjamin Sesko, who has made 28 appearances for the national team, scoring 11 goals. His debut season at RB Leipzig left a lasting impression. Slovenia surprised everyone by defeating Portugal 2-0 in a friendly match in March, serving as a reminder of their threat.
Scotland
Following an impressive qualifying campaign, Scotland's disappointment on the international matchday in March was palpable. They were defeated by the Netherlands, and perhaps more concerning was their loss to Northern Ireland. Scott McTominay's seven goals in the qualifiers provided inspiration, although he trails behind the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappe. With two final matches to prepare for before their opening night in Munich against hosts Germany, Scotland has work to do.
Switzerland
The Swiss put in hard work in a relatively straightforward qualifying group, but they seem to lack the firepower to make a significant impact at the European Championship. Chicago Fire's 32-year-old Sheridan Shakiri remains one of their more dynamic attacking players.
Czech Republic
The Czech team emerged from a fiercely competitive field and is likely to advance from their group in the European Championship alongside Portugal, Turkey, and Georgia. Captain Tomas Soucek is their key player.
Serbia
Serbia remains an enigma, with more talented players than their recent match results suggest. The likes of Sergej Milinković-Savić, captain Dušan Tadić, Saša Lukić, and Aleksandar Mitrović have shown glimpses of their abilities. However, their losses to Hungary twice in the qualifiers and a 4-0 defeat to Russia in March's friendly preparations have left them with little to learn from.
Poland
After a disastrous qualifying campaign, the team has bounced back under the leadership of new head coach Michael Probierz, clinching a penalty shootout victory against Wales in the playoffs. Robert Lewandowski is likely to play his final national team match, and Poland will rely on his goals to spring surprises in a tough group alongside the Netherlands, France, and Austria.
Slovakia
Slovakia has advanced to the European Championship amidst tense competition, finding themselves in a fiercely contested yet seemingly open group alongside Belgium, Romania, and Ukraine. Captain Milan Škriniar anchors their defense, while left-winger Lukáš Haraslín, with 14 goals already this season for Sparta Prague, provides attacking impetus.
Romania
Ranked first in their qualifying group with an unbeaten record, Romania's tally of 16 goals in 10 matches, four of which were against Andorra or Kosovo, underscores their lack of attacking prowess. Star player and captain Nicolae Stanciu has spent the past few years playing in China and Saudi Arabia.
Turkey
Turkey has experienced a turbulent period in recent months, with head coach Stefan Kuntz being sacked and replaced by Roma legend Vincenzo Montella. Initially guiding the team to qualification for the European Championship, ahead of Wales and just behind Croatia, Montella suffered a disastrous March international break, losing 0-1 to Hungary and suffering a humiliating 1-6 defeat to Austria. They lack a potent striker, and Montella is busy preparing them for their opening match against Georgia in the Euros.
Ukraine
Seeing the celebrations of Ukraine's qualification for the 2024 European Championship playoffs warmed my heart. This team has some talent, most notably their hero in the playoff final, Mihaylo Mudrek, as a nation rallies behind them to emerge from the weakest group comprising Belgium, Slovakia, and Romania.
Albania
Ranked first in their qualifying group, Albania faces a daunting task in the 2024 European Championship group stage against Spain, Italy, and Croatia - progressing to the knockout stages would be a remarkable achievement. Armando Broja is their great hope, while Atalanta's Berat Djimsiti is a high-quality defender and captain of the national team.
Georgia
After winning a dramatic penalty shootout following a tense playoff final against Greece, Georgia secured their first-ever qualification for a major tournament, sparking celebrations on the streets of Tbilisi. Former Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol, tasked with assembling a team capable of fully utilizing Napoli star Hvich'a Kvaratskhelia, leads them.

Key Matches in Groups A, B, C, D, E, F
Group A
Germany |
Scotland |
Hungary |
Switzerland |
Group A: This group feels very evenly matched, with every team having a chance to qualify. Germany used to be a strong team, they haven't been playing as well as they used to lately, but they may have an advantage as a home team. Hungary could be the dark horse of this group.
Group B
Croatia |
Italy |
Albania |
Spain |
Group B: It can be considered as the “Group of Death” with three strong teams, Spain, Croatia and Italy. Spain has the strongest overall strength, so the probability is that it will be the first in the group. Very intense is the fight between Italy and Croatia in the second place.
Group C
England |
Serbia |
Denmark |
Slovenia |
Group C: Euro 2024 Group C situation is relatively complex, in addition to the strength of the strongest England, the other three teams strength gap is not very large, who have the opportunity to compete for qualification, who can get points on England has become the key, from the experience of the tournament, as well as the strength of the lineup, Denmark is the No. 2 seed of the group, the line out of the opportunity to be relatively higher, the prediction is that in the end, England will be easily to It is predicted that England will easily reach the round of sixteen as the first team in the group, Denmark has a chance to stand out among the other three teams to take the second place in the group, but Serbia and Slovenia have a chance to compete for the third place in the group of the four best results to reach the round of sixteen.
GroupD
Poland |
Netherlands |
Austria |
France |
Group D: France and the Netherlands are the favorites to advance, Austria and Poland's probability of advancement is very low. Group D is in addition to Group B, the most competitive group, four teams have a certain degree of competitiveness, the French team is the only team with a greater advantage of the group, the other three teams have the opportunity to compete for the second qualification, Austria and Poland's Euro experience is not enough, in comparison with the Netherlands is obviously to take advantage of the strength of the Netherlands. To occupy the advantage, at the same time the strength of the lineup of the Netherlands is also quite strong, to become the second seed of the group, Austria and Poland if you can play exceptionally well, may not be no opportunity to compete for the qualification, but also have the ability to compete for the best results of the group of four third to play in the round of sixteen.
GroupE
Belgium |
Slovakia |
Romania |
Ukraine |
Group E: Euro 2024 Group E is obviously not as popular as the other groups because the other three teams don't have any star players except Belgium, and because of this, Belgium is rightfully the biggest favorite to get out of this group, and if they play normally, it's hard for the other three teams to give Belgium any trouble. However, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine have the opportunity to compete for another qualification, basically can put aside the strength of the lineup, all depends on the players on the field state as well as the tactical arrangements of the coaching staff, which is slightly stronger than the strength of the Ukraine Romania and Slovakia, the prediction of the final group of teams for the final team for the Belgian and Ukrainian teams.
GroupF
Turkey |
Grorgia |
Portugal |
Czech Republic |
Group F: Portugal has a lot of experience in big games. The team won all 10 matches in the qualifying stage and finished at the top of the group without any doubt, with impeccable performance in both offense and defense. The other three teams also have a chance. Portugal is certainly a sure bet to make it out of the group. Meanwhile Georgia has the least promising prospects of getting out of the group and is known as a fish out of water team. The Czech Republic is slightly stronger than Turkey, so let's see which team will finish second in the group.
Each group has its own dynamics and challenges, but Groups A and B, especially, stand out for their tough competition and uncertainty about who will advance.

Putting aside the 12 teams fighting in the play-offs for the last three tickets to the final round of the European Cup, the four favorites to win this year's European Cup are France, England, Germany and Portugal. In the prediction, the probability of winning the championship for both England and France is 22%, which indicates that the combined strength of their teams are the two most competitive teams in the European Cup. However, the knockout system presents a lot of uncertainties, for example, the actual result may be affected by a variety of factors such as team status, injuries, tactical arrangements, etc., but it will be over before it is too late to make adjustments. So it is recommended to place your bets rationally.

The cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 533 steps lead up to the top of the tower, which is a challenging way to exercise. Exploring German Beer and Cuisine
Beer: According to the German Pure Beer Order, German beer can only be made from three ingredients: malt, hops, and water. Therefore, for nearly 500 years, German beer has been almost synonymous with pure beer. Today, as the world's second-largest beer producing country, Germany has 1300 breweries and produces over 5000 types of beer. The beer produced is still renowned worldwide. German beer is famous for its quality and variety, including lager beer, wheat beer, and dark beer. Global renowned brands such as Pittsburgh, Augustine, and Beck are examples of such outstanding performance. The famous beer festival in Munich is the world's largest beer festival, attracting tourists eager to taste various German beers, enjoy local cuisine, and experience the unique and vibrant traditions and atmosphere of the event.

Cuisine: Traditional German cuisine showcases its long history and rich cultural traditions. Don't miss this country full of large chunks of meat when traveling with carnivorous animals, such as fried pork trotters, fried pork chops, Munich sausages, Bavarian roast duck, and the common European beef burger with such a big face. German meat should not be too nostalgic. And roasted trout with butter. The outer skin is crispy, the fish is tender and juicy, and the acidity of lemon can also relieve greasiness and remove fishy smell. It's great! This dish should be seen in local restaurants with lakes and rivers. (For example, popular scenic spot King Lake). When it comes to desserts, Black Forest cake is more famous, but the one that surprises me the most is definitely Apfelstrudel! The freshly baked apple pie paired with condensed milk is not a better dessert! Actually, I don't really like apples, but I am completely impressed by this!

Some hotels in Germany even require check-out at 10 o'clock. Hotels can be booked earlier than planned, which will be cheaper; It should be noted that each room type in the hotel has a relatively cheap option, but this is non refundable. If the itinerary has been confirmed before booking, booking this option will be relatively cost-effective.
